Problem though ....I ran the command

./jann.pl "test message"

And look for the message ....where on earth is it?

Just had the same problem myself.  Found the answer, though, in XML::Stream.  Apparently
that function moved at some point.  So just replace Net::Jabber::EscapeXML with
XML::Stream::EscapeXML and all should be good.
