I did not yet tested Gajim ( http://gajim.org/ ), but this seems to be(come) a 
good client.
You also should try Coccinella ( http://hem.fyristorg.com/matben/ ). Although 
its interface is not _really_ polished, it includes many features such as MUC 
and a whiteboard.
