[jadmin] Problem setting up Jabberd On Redhat Linux AS.

Hi

I am facing problems setting up a Jabberd server 1.4.2 on linux AS.
After installation when I give /etc/init.d/jabberd start it just excutes
and the general prompt appears and I don't' see any ' Starting Jabber
Server.....' on the screen. I don't' c any process running. When I give
a restart command  it says as

Stopping Jabberd: killing jabberd with pid 2604/etc/init.d/jabberd :
line 94 : kill: (2604) - No such process

And also pl., suggest me the procedure of  how to test a jabber client
on Windows XP. Do I need to configure MySQL also on the server. Suggest
