Uhm - that's jabber unrelated (more depending on the way you add a user
to your system. Or how your package management software does that) and
probably the user _has_ no password. That's not the same as an empty
password and locks the account out.
Since this account probably wasn't meant for interactive logins anyway,
it doesn't need a password and might not even have a shell. Btw: If you
su - to root before, you can su - to anyone without a need for a
password anyway. Or look at sudo for whatever task you're trying to do
as "jabber".
Apart from that didn't you even specify which jabber server you might
have installed.
