[jadmin] registration

After tens of hours of trying to figure out what was broken in my
Jabber2 setup, installing, uninstalling, trying different auth and
storage backends, and trying several jabber clients, I tried yet
another jabber client -- gaim on Linux (ubuntu 6.06). And it seemed
to work fine.

It appears that clients (Fire on OS X, iChat on OS X, cjc on FreeBSD)
are not able to register an account against a Jabber2 server, where
they could just fine against a Jabber1 server. Gaim however, can
register against a Jabber2 server, and once it does, Fire, for
example, can log into that account.

Can anyone shed some light on this phenomena? Did the registration
mechanism change at some point? Is there some knob I can twiddle in
the Jabber2 configuration settings which will re-enable registration
with these other clients?

Thanks for any help.
