I believe Antepo (http://www.antepo.com/) does this to some degree,  
although it might just be for SIP clients. (ie: you can connect to  
the antepo server with a SIP/SIMPLE client or an XMPP client)

Then again I'm largely in the dark when it comes to commercial XMPP  
servers.

Both Antepo and JabberInc offer AOL-blessed AIM transports which does  
not require users to already have AIM screennames. However, there is  
a service contract involved, and you are only allowed to use the  
transport with "authorized" XMPP clients. AOL sure doesn't make it easy.
