[jadmin] Failing to initialise storage drivers

Admins, I've installed jabber 2.0 on a Solaris 10 sparc system.  I have mysql 5.0.26 installed and running.  When I try to start jabber (/usr/local/bin/jabberd -D)
it keeps shutting down.
I've updated both sm.xml and c2s.xml files with the mysql password.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Errors below:

mysql:  connection to database failed:  Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server: consider upgrading MySql client
failed to initalise one or more storage drivers, aborting
mysql: connection to database failed:  client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client
failed to initialise auth module 'mysql'.
