Depending on how you build Pidgin, it can either use it's own
internal SASL implementation, or the external Cyrus SASL libraries -
whether the bug is present is going to depend on the version of
Pidgin, the way in which it is built, and the version of the Cyrus
libraries on your OS.
You can also build jabberd2 against Cyrus, rather than GSASL. Whilst
this is officially unsupported, the Cyrus SASL libraries are rather
more forgiving in what they both send and accept, as well as
supporting a wider range of mechanisms and authentication options.
