Maybe just for information purposes:

I added the line

deb http://ftp.debian.de/debian oldstable main contrib non-free

to the /etc/apt/sources.list

Then apt-get update
and install jabber 1.4.3-3 through aptitude oder make a
apt-get install jabber=1.4.3-3 on the command line

after that, maybe the hold status should ne set to the jabber paket so
that an update to the 1.4.3-3.3 is ommited

Debians 1.4.3-3 seems to work fine for s2s transport
