hi, i have a somewhat similar problem. we have about 300 users and about 2gb
of ram, i've allocated 1gb of ram for java memory and about 85% of it is
being used. is this normal? isn't it too big? also, before i increased the
java memory allocation from 256mb to 1gb, the server hangs up almost
everyday because it was reaching 100% utilization of the allocated size.
now, it doesn't hang up that often but it still hangs up about once a week.

256 MB of RAM isn't a lot for a server machine. :) How many users do you
have? If it's not that many, most likely Java is just using up that much
memory until it's next garbage collection.
