Yes mu-conference is still alive, and I intend to do release soon (when I'll 
have time).

The next release won't depend anymore on jabberd thanks to jcr (which is now 
integrated in mu-conference). You can use the developpement version, which 
runs really well (we use it at chat.jabberfr.org), and fixes a lot of bugs.
