Can you try with another client? GAIM (Pidgin)'s Jabber plugin has had
multiple issues and AFAIK Jabber support in Pidgin is still very weak
compared to other clients. In general a Jabber-only client will
normally have no issues related to Jabber support for the simple
reason that when they release a version that has major issues, the
whole release would become useless, instead of multi-protocol clients.
This is also one of the reasons why I would like to see development
efforts on multi-protocol clients move to Jabber transport projects.
