Would such a daemon be able to work transparently between applications and
the user's real server? If some method for the daemon to authenticate to the
server, and the local applications authenticate to the daemon, the daemon
could handle routing of stanzas to the various local applications.
It is possible for conflicts to occur, in the id attribute of stanzas, if
some applications do not use id's specific to their application instance.
This could be overcome by the daemon rewriting the id attribute. This would
help it to keep track of which stanzas should be routed to which local
application when they are recieved via the Jabber server.
Using this method avoids the need for IPC, or any other client
libraries/modifications. It would be truly independant of what language the
client is written in, it could even allow multiple clients on multiple
machines (connected by a LAN) to share the very same connection to the
Jabber server.
Tell me, good idea or no?
