I don't see any problem with these extra steps, its not making it too 
complex, it may not be fire and forget 100% of the time, but I don't see 
any problem with that, its not really making it much more difficult to 
implement.

No it doesn't, there is nothing stopping people from implementing the 
tiny increase in complexity when saving private data compared to how 
they do it now, it looks perfectly fine to me, id rather have a tiny bit 
of extra complexity to ensure the private data is likely to stay private 
than risk it being inadvertently made public by accident.
