The biggest difference is trust and personalization. You are connected with
friends only. Information may come from far away, but they must pass through
your friends to reach you, and you must be subscribed to these tags (
http://iss.im/node/11 ). Also, another important difference is that
mailing-lists are centralized, while this is as distributed as XMPP itself.
