Much too complicated IMO :) You just need a simple form with some PHP
(or whatever) that makes a connection with the jabber.org server over
XMPP and creates the account. Should be 15 minutes or less to create
that if you use one of the PHP XMPP classes, even as a Drupal module :)

Ofcourse jabber.org does have a bit of a political problem here. If we
actively promote jabber.org we're not really giving the other jabber
servers a chance. But it shouldn't be that difficult to keep the
jabber.org XMPP server pages separated from the 'getting started with
jabber' pages.

Adam, thanks for the stats! Very insighful.

One thing that pops out is the 62% bounce rate on 'jabber client(s)'.
I.e. 62% leaves without visiting another page on the site. :\ Not sure
if this means that the current site is great or very suboptimal :)
Either people immediately find what they are looking for or they very
quickly decide that jabber.org doesn't have what they want.

BTW I had expected much higher numbers for the site? :\
BTW2 the interest in transports is partially there because quite a few
(early) Java mobile phone applications and iChat only support XMPP. Lots
of people use this XMPP support to get MSN etc on their phone or Mac.
