For developers and admins I agree, for users that want to post a  
message on the forum or a comment this is not going to work IMO.

Isn't it possible to offer a web registration frontend for the  
jabber.org XMPP service? That way we can direct people there with a  
'do you want an account for the website or for your Jabber/XMPP  
client?'.

Or, if web registration isn't an option, first try a big red warning  
with 'this registration is NOT for the jabber service'.
