In the book he writes that store managers (and even all employees
AFAIR) can implement a change that they will think to benefit the
company. They don't need to argument with their bosses; they just
implement the change straight ahead. If the change comes out to be
bad, it will be reversed immediately with little damage. If the change
comes out to be good, the store manager will notify other store
managers in his region and they will also implement the change. If
they get the same results, it will spread to all Aldi stores.
Advantage compared to competition: speed and flexibility. (oh yes, I
know Aldi is a radical example, but radical examples are good to make
a point)
