Greetings. I am reluctant to think of XEP specifications to standardize specific concerns; yet, I could be wrong. In fact, I am not sure whether XEP-0511: Link Metadata should have been created, as this can be handled by client-side; again, I could be wrong. Nevertheless, however, we could create an XEP of Metalink (RFC 5854: The Metalink Download Description Format); and, instead of creating more XEP specifications for concerns of multimedia, we could update a single XEP of "Metalink" every time we need to classify a new use-case which has binary, image, or otherwise multimedia documents. Metalink is surely useful to share multiple documents (e.g. galleries). Schimon On Mon, 2 Nov 2026 14:33:19 +0000 Dave Cridland <dave@cridland.net> wrote:

Hi All,

At the online summit there was some discussion about voice notes, which I hate.

But, they've come up on a requirements doc I'm working to, so I thought I might see what the current best-practice / specs are.

Do we have any?

Are we using SIMS, SFS, OOB, or just putting a URL in the body and hoping everyone knows what we mean? Or all of the above?
