Can we sincerely talk about setting up a spam filter or at the very least, requiring Gmail addresses to first be manually reviewed by a human before they can start a thread? These weekly spam floods are definitely not just a single instance, and this is getting more and more annoying for me (and others I can imagine). Kindly, Christos Tsichrinis (a.k.a. oakchris1955)

Please let us handle it and not keep amplifying the problem with endless threads about the spam. You (anyone) can contact me or others in the XSF directly via chat/email off-list if you have questions or concerns which are not on-topic for this list: https://xmpp.org/contact/ We already have various mechanisms to prevent spam. Our mail server logs are flooded with rejected spam messages practically every minute. If we had nothing in place, there would be a flood of spam all the time every single day. Nevertheless, I appreciate that the small fraction of spam occasionally getting through is still very annoying in itself. But if everyone reacts to these (as happened last time), it is just going to increase the noise. We're aware of it, and are working on it. Regards, Matthew
