Hmm, stil not entirely sure what you are after and it's impossible to  
give you a suggestion on how long it will take since only you know  
how good of a programmer you are or exactly what kind of features you  
want or the level of stability you are aiming for in the first step.

However, I can say that writing it all is a significant amount of  
more work than using an already existing and working library.
