We had a smaller-than-usual JSF discussion today in the foundation room,
probably because we changed the time to 16:00 UTC. I've gotten good
feedback on the time (it seems to be better for folks in Europe) so I'd
like to keep holding the discussions at 16:00 UTC unless people complain.
A log of today's discussion is here:

http://www.jabber.org/chatbot/logs/conference.jabber.org/foundation/2002-09-11.html

Main points:

1. No major complaints about the election / meeting process

2. I'm currently re-doing all the Jabber docs in preparation for launch of
the new jabber.org website by October 1. At least one major translation
effort (into Spanish) will begin as soon as I have the docs all updated
and converted to DocBook XML. We may seek out other translation efforts as
well (Russian, German, Frensh, Chinese, etc.). If you are interested, let
me know!

3. Jabber Inc. has arranged for free Jabber banner ads on the OSDN network
of sites (Slashdot, Freshmeat, etc.) starting October 1. I will have more
details tomorrow. We need to make sure the banner ads are generic enough
(not specific to Jabber Inc.) and appropriate for the OSDN audiences. This
may be a Board item.

4. We need clarity around the IPR policy in order to move forward on
JEPs (we can't advance things to Final until we make sure we're protected
against potential patent problems).

5. We need a way of ranking Jabber software in terms of protocol
compliance, especially since things like the client list on the new site
will be directly imported from JabberStudio, and there is no guarantee
that such software even compiles, let alone complies with the protocol.
JSF Board member Tony Bamonti is working with Jabber Inc. to maybe use
their protocol tool.

Those are the main issues we discussed. I encourage JSF members to join us
next week (same bat time, same bat channel) so we can keep the heat on the
Board and the Council to make progress. :)
