My involvement with Jabber isn't as impressive as the other new members
who have introduced themselves so far, but here goes.
I first set up a jabber server of my own about 2 1/2 years ago to get
around my employer's policy against installing the ICQ client on our
work machines, and I've been mucking about with it ever since. My job is
primarily web development, mostly back-end programming, and as a result,
I've been studying a lot of issues related to "semantic web" efforts.
This led me to discover FOAF, and to create my JabFoaf utilities, which
convert Jabber roster vCard info into FOAF RDF data.
I've also recently hacked my weblog to send me a jabber notification
whenever a comment, trackback, or pingback occurs on my blog. I hope to
eventually rework that into a PubSub model which will allow anyone to
subscribe to comment notifications of individual entries on my blog.
