I thought about a better marketing approach, too.
A real campaign would be urgently needed - but this would have
sideeffects on the jabber.org frontpage, too. The name dilemma
(jabber/xmpp) has made the situation even more difficult - we now have
jabber inc, jabber, jabber SF and xmpp. I think the JSF should move
further away from jabber inc, but that's just my personal thought.
to be honest - with respect to jabber inc - i don't want to promote a
jabber brand - a brand owned by a good company which "secured a $7.2m
(£4.6m) investment from Intel Capital, which joins France Telecom and
Webb Interactive Services as Jabber's main financial benefactors" of
which i don't see a cent. i would be very happy to promote a XMPP
foundation.
i thought about newspaper campaigns already and calculated everything
back and forth and always came to the same conclusion (see above). it's
simply too close from my point of view.
the most important question for me:
if we do worldwide marketing for 'jabber' how can a customer distinguish
jabber from jabber?
my two cent
