Hi all,
Someone was recently saying to me that the client chart should have an updated
list of items. Here is what I came up with:
XMPP IM 1.0 compliant (this implies a ton of things, like SRV, SSL/TLS, SASL,
basic chat, etc)
Unicode
Multiple Simultaneous logins
Data Forms (jep-4)
Service Discovery (jep-30)
Multi-User Chat (jep-45)
Message logging/history
Emoticons (jep-38)
File Transfer (jep-96)
End-to-end encryption (jep-27 or other)
HTTP Polling Proxy (jep-25)
Skinning
Voice Chat
This would make the list much more useful I think, incorporating the recent
standards and throwing away really stupid items like "Basic Chat" and "Sound
notifications", which all listed clients (at least for windows) support.
I don't think that the JEP numbers should be listed next to the features on
the actual website, I only list them here for clarification. But the idea is
to have much more strict guidelines. To claim groupchat support, the client
would need to support jep-45. I think this would make the chart more useful,
and would help promote the standards.
