That is my main concern also.  MUC very solidly competes with IRC.  It
was modeled after IRC.  Users are intended to use it instead of IRC. 
Please let's not encourage IRC use over MUC.

I wouldn't be against that... Is there a less painful way?  Can an
existing IRC jabber server component be beefed up to serve in this
capacity, and at the same time, benefit OUR community (instead of
Freenode's).  I have nothing against IRC in general of Freenode in
particular.  But my stated goal in joining the JSF was to help ensure
that we take over the planet.  So that's the background for my
thoughts.
