I don't think so. The Web isn't called HTTP. So the network of XMPP 
servers shouldn't be called the XMPP network either. It won't catch on 
with the general public because it is not a nice name.

Names matter a lot. Even us techies prefer nice easy-to-pronounce names 
like "Jingle" over abbreviations like XMPP.
