XSF Board of Directors
Meeting Minutes, 2007-03-06

In attendance:

Alexander Gnauck (Board Member, Secretary)
Mickael Remond (Board Member)
Peter Saint-Andre (Executive Director)
Matt Tucker (Board Member, Chair)

Scribe: Peter Saint-Andre

0. Roll Call

All Board members in attendance, quorum achieved.

1. Websites / infrastructure

Peter working with Drupal expert on migration of existing setup for
xmpp.net to Drupal 5 and an SVN code repository for enhancements.
Volunteers from among XSF membership to be involved as soon as migration
is complete, they will help with set up of new jabber.org site and
interop.xmpp.org. Some discussion of existing server infrastructure, to
be continued in future meetings (e.g., backup / replacement machines?).

2. Interop / compliance

Per discussions at XMPP Summit in Brussels, it would be desirable to
establish a more official compliance program. Consensus at Summit on
six-month lead time, so that requirements for "XMPP Basic 2008" level
(etc.) would be established by end of Q2 2007. Use existing protocol
suites for this purpose (we have process for working with XEPs). So need
to prioritize and update those specs. This is action item for Council,
to be discussed on Standards list.

Also need to establish online interop testing environment. Consensus
from interop at xmpp.org list and XMPP Summit discussions to establish
website at http://interop.xmpp.org/ where developers will register and
agree to terms and conditions, including confidentiality agreement.
Server vendors will set up their own deployments at domains such as
ejabberd.interop.xmpp.org, we will point DNS at the provided IP address
and issue certificates via the ICA. Each server project will have one
point person who will issue usernames and password to registered
developers. Access only to approved persons who have agreed to the terms
and conditions. Peter pushed for at least two servers initially
(ejabberd and Openfire) to seed the network. DNS and ICA are ready to
go. Note that DNS for ejabberd.interop.xmpp.org is pointed at IP address
provided by Mickaël during the meeting.

As also discussed at the XMPP Summit, before compliance testing results
are available (2008?) we will move the jabber.org software listings to a
self-reporting system on the new Drupal-based site. If there are
problems with self-reporting, we will address those as needed, but given
the honest and open nature of our community we do not envision problems.

3. Logo

Matt and Peter to talk with potential logo creator after the meeting.
Results to follow.
