Here is a draft of a post that I would be sending to the Members list and
also on the blog.
I'm doing it as a draft because I feel that the discussion of the draft
will itself help bring out the same folks who need to be a part of the
discussion - so I'm seeding the question :)
anywho, here is the draft, if you care about the XSF's involvement in GSoC
2013 please do make comments and start the discussion.
----------vv draft vv---------
With the exception of one year, the XSF has participated in the Google
Summer of Code for something like the past 8 years and now, with Google
announcing the 2013 season we have a single question to answer:
Should the XSF participate again this year?
The last two years support for running the GSoC pretty much fell to a
single person (outside of the work of the individual mentors) so if we
participate we would need to have a much broader base of people to spread
the workload. I say this because 2013 is *already* looking to be a very
busy year for the XSF.
So, the above bear ramblings aside, is there enough organizational
interest for us to submit and Org request again? Given our history with
the project, I feel comfortable that we would get 3-5 slots - so the
question is do we have 3-5 groups with enough interest?
