I replied on the GitHub PR. For the record, the issue is that Peters editor
apparently writes Byte Order Marks for UTF-8, which are not supported by our
tooling (the fact that tools like jq can deal with that adds to the
confusion).
The error message the tooling creates isn’t helpful at all, unfortunately.
