[Standards-JIG] JEP-0060: Retrieving the current node configuration?

JEP-0060 defines a mechanism to retrieve the form needed to
configure a node and provides a mechanism to submit the form. However, it
doesn't seem to provide a means to retrieve the current configuration. It
would be very nice if it was possible to retrieve the current node
configuration.
Admittedly, some implementations will insert the current values into
a form that has been requested, thus, the current values can be parsed from
the form, however, it would be much more convenient if it were possible to
retrieve the current configuration as a report -- rather than as a side
effect of requesting a form.
I propose the use of "configuration" (the noun) rather than
"configure" (the verb) as in the stanza below to enable one to retrieve the
current configuration as a report.
