[Juser] emoticons

Hello,

my friends and I are going to move from MSN to Jabber. But we are
having problems with emoticons (e.g.
http://msn-fun.de/images/smiley/Sports/ball1.gif). Those images are
around 20kb big. We are using pidgin. Sending smileys over msn
messenger protocol works fine. But over jabber it says that the
message is too long (hard limit of pidgin: 8kb -
http://developer.pidgin.im/viewmtn/revision/info/884bb785d674029cb52e46cb82a86241df13bf46).
According to BoB XEP this is the recommended maximum size of a
message. I don't know XMPP very well.
Can you suggest a way of using emoticons over XMPP?
