Yes, that's the idea. We'll never make progress if we don't try.

Already, the new xmpp.net service (thanks to Thijs!) has led to
security improvements across the XMPP network. IMHO the test days will
lead to further improvements (e.g., by isolating which software
implementations and deployed services are lacking in various features
or are misconfigured).

Ideally, Google would decide to either shut off federation with the
XMPP network entirely or at least support unauthenticated TLS for
server-to-server connections. The limbo we're in is unfortunate.
