The XMPP Standards Foundation (XSF) will hold its 29th Summit on Friday 4
September and Saturday 5 September 2026. This will be the first online XMPP
Summit in the organizers' memory!

*About the Summit*The XMPP Summit is where the XMPP community comes
together to discuss protocol development, implementation experience, and
the future of the ecosystem.
While traditionally held in person, this online edition brings the same
unconference spirit into a distributed format, with a pre-prepared agenda
and structured discussions to make the most of the online setting.

Each session will include focused discussions on selected topics, with
short breaks between sessions.
*Format highlights*
Topics are proposed and discussed in advance of the Summit. Community
voting determines the final agenda. Four topics will be selected for
discussion across the two days. Each session is up to 80 minutes, with
short breaks in between.
This format is designed to keep discussions focused, productive, and
accessible across time zones.

Dear all,
This year the XMPP Summit 28 took again place in Brussels and we had
great participation of almost 40 people attending in-person and online.
We also had several new faces there which is great news, too!
The same, FOSDEM 2026 took also place at ULB, and though we had to
arrange for a new location our Realtime Lounge, the feedback and
impressions have been mostly positive.
Finally, writing a summary of our experience would be valuable and help
others to gain interest in the way we work and the ecosystem are
continuously building. To collaborate on this effort, everyone is

Prior to FOSDEM 2026, members of the XMPP Standards Foundation convene
for XMPP Summit 28. The annual summit in Brussels traditionally includes
the XSF dinner, which is hosted by the XSF for its members, friends, and
sponsors, to thank them for their hard work and support for the
foundation and its mission.
Also, it's great fun.
The dinner will take place on the Thursday prior to FOSDEM, at
restaurant L'Auberge Brétonne (Brusselsesteenweg 670 – 3090 OVERIJSE).

I've just took the chance to update the FOSEM 2026 section a little bit.
First of all, please check if you have material, ideas or also interest
to use the opportunity to promote your project. That also if we get the
projector setup run again (Ralph, maybe you can check the point made by
Goffi and comment).

Dear all,
after our XMPP Summit 28 (where only 50% of the places are left !!1! ;)
) the FOSDEM 2026 takes place and, if you haven't heard, we have a booth
again!
To make the most of it and also promote our eco-system we should take
the chance to organize this. In this regard I am asking to come back
with your input on
* Do you have leftover promotion material?
* What ideas do you have for what we need or can do at the booth?
* Any other activities you plan.

the XMPP Standards Foundation (XSF) is exited to announce the 28th XMPP
Summit taking place in Brussels, Belgium next year - just before FOSDEM
2026. The XSF invites everyone interested in development of the XMPP
protocol to attend, and discuss all things XMPP - both in person and
remotely!
The XMPP Summit
The XMPP Summit is a two-day event for the people who write and
implement XMPP extensions (XEPs) (https://xmpp.org/extensions/). The
event is not a typical conference - aside from small and short lightning
talks, there are no long presentations.
Who participates at the Summit?
The participants, where everyone is welcome, are sitting at a round
table to discuss and active participation is encouraged. Similar to an
unconference at the beginning all participants can suggest topics and
others can indicate via votes whether or not they are interested in that
topic.
Afterwards a rough order of topics is established that will be followed
in moderation with the participants.
How does the Summit work?
If you have ever followed a thread on the standards mailing list
(https://xmpp.org/community/mailing-lists/) or taken part in a
discussion on the public XSF channel (https://xmpp.org/community/chat/)
you should be familiar with this - just in person. The different topics
are broken up by short breaks that are great for networking and getting
to know other XMPP developers. Still, if you cannot participate, we will
also provide an online way of joining the discussion.
Agreeing on a common strategy or even establishing a rough priority for
certain features in our decentral and interoperable technology and
protocol can be hard. In-person events do a lot in getting us on the
same page and as an XMPP developer (e.g. client, server, gateway) we
strongly encourage you to come to the summit. (In short: To get the most
out of the summit you should have a background in reading (and maybe
even writing) XEPs).
If you are simply an enthusiastic user or admin we regularly have booths
at various conferences (FOSDEM, CLT, FrOSCon, …) that are a great
opportunity to meet us, too. Either way, everyone is welcome to participate!

will be a coffee break (from 09:00 o’clock) and lunch (13:00 to 14:00

Hi all,
The XSF infrastructure team is planning to move our mailman installation
from a dedicated machine to a cloud service. When doing so, we also plan
to delete some lists that are no longer in use or that could be replaced
with chatrooms. Do we feel the need to keep this list for Summit-related
coordination, or could we use a chatroom instead?
