My biggest area of concern with having the name Jabber is the confusion.

When I try to explain to friends / family the difference between JSF,
Jabber.org, and JInc, they quickly become glassy eyed or express concern
that I would be involved with driving a brand that is intertwined with a
company (JInc) that I'm not a part of.

As someone who makes a living writing and selling software, I
esthetically dislike promoting the "Jabber Software Foundation" because
it immediately drives people to www.jabber.com, rather than (in my case)
www.winfessor.com. While JInc and Winfessor are not direct competitors,
I believe this is a very valid concern for many of the corporations
involved in the JSF that do directly compete with JInc.

I don't want to use my time, effort, and money to facilitate someone
else's branding. This makes me leery of adding "JSF" to press releases,
leery of putting the JSF logo on web pages, or otherwise promoting the
JSF.

A name change to "Open IM Standard Foundation" (or something similar)
would remove all these barriers and make me, both personally and
professionally, much more willing to promote the Foundation.
