Mr Gottschalk,

I regret to inform you that you are mistaken. The vote *was* to remove
"Jabber" from the name, and select a new one. As the proposal[1] clearly

Changing the name of the JSF and its branding of protocol extensions
would involve two
1. During a special membership meeting on July 23, 2003 the JSF will hold a
referendum to remove the term “Jabber” from the name of the JSF and from
official names of protocols that the JSF creates for compliance purposes
“Jabber IM 1.0 Basic”).
2. If the referendum passes, a working group (JSF Name Team) will be
formed to
create a plan for changing the JSF’s name, evaluate the costs and issues
associated with the name change, and come up with a list of alternate
names for
the membership to vote on. The Name Team would have a limited charter from
July 24, 2003 until September 30, 2003. It's expected that a vote on a
new name
would take place in October, 2003 based on the group's recommendations. The
JSF Board will appoint the Name Team leader.
It is important to note that this proposal does not suggest what the new
name for the JSF
is beyond removing “Jabber” from the name. Selecting a new name will be
the task of the
JSF Name Team.
