So, why do you insist on normalizing API (API is the thing which makes
different libraries different and developers choose one library or
another) and not on normalizing configuration.

IMHO normalizing configuration whould be a good thing. I guess
a normalized set of environment variables or/and configuration files
(like /etc/resolv.conf for DNS) for UNIX and a normalized set of
registry keys for Windows and whatever for Mac would be a good thing.
Trying to force particular API is not.

Twisted developers will not accept any not-that-twisted API.
Functional-language programmers will not accept object-oriented or
imperative API. And so on.
