It is not based on speculation, I have talked with the Google Talk team
about it.

First of all, this is a friggin' BETA. They JUST released it. They wrote
THEIR OWN implementation. Server-to-server is HARD. Perhaps, just
perhaps, they wanted to launch the service now and get some feedback on
it while it's in beta and then add more features later? Heck, Jive
Messenger just added server-to-server recently and I didn't see
complaints and open letters then. We've been working toward world
domination since 1999 and patience has stood us in good stead. A little
more patience won't hurt anyone.
