Reliable IM is still the biggest issue xmpp faces, imo, and one I
desperately want to see addressed in the next year.
I'm a bit curious about how one provides incentives to clients to
support things like sasl, tls etc; surely all clients are already
pretty motivated to support the base spec (whether they support it or
not, I'd guess supporting the spec is a fairly big incentive), but I
guess I'll have to be patient and see.
