I've been thinking about something involving "talk" in the name.
"Talk" sounds better than "messaging," and includes more than just IM,
which is one of our goals.

Also, it would capitalize on the fact you point out that people are
already associating the "network of XMPP-capable servers" as the
"Google Talk" network. If we used some name incorporating "talk," I
think that when people saw "Talk" on whirlpool.net.au, they'd easily
recognize they could enter their Google Talk information, where people
more savvy to XMPP technologies would recognize "Google Talk" as
"Google's implementation of Talk," just like "Gmail" is "Google's
implementation of e-mail."

Perhaps something like "Internet talk" (i-talk), or something.
