If it doesn't route iq stanzas between two clients, that's broken. If
it doesn't handle iq stanzas addressed to itself (other than bind of
course), that doesn't make it not XMPP.

I'm entirely aware of that fact. But I don't see that something has to
"be" XMPP in order to "speak" XMPP.

I'm not trying to defend sub-par XMPP implementations here, I'm just
trying to make my point that you can't disqualify these systems from
being called XMPP while they're compliant with the protocol, even if
they aren't the kind of XMPP we've been used to for the past 10 years.

A lot of people moan about issues with Google's implementation. It's
not perfect by any means, but maybe now these people can see how lucky
they've been :)
