Yes, maybe a short questionnaire in their first week, a simple 5 question Survey Monkey type thing to find out why they joined and what they are interested in. Also to ask the which mailing list(s) they would like to join.

The questionnaire output is used to decide who to introduce them too on the board and council as 'new member buddies' and which members they may like to connect with.

So what we're doing here is artificially kick starting a social graph for new members rather than just saying 'thanks for joining'.

We may have to run the questionnaire past all current members to generate some base data.
