We're sitting here at buddycloud towers having a conversation trying to
understand Google's federation statements.

We also did some tests -

- gtalk user to gtalk user works
- gtalk user to google hosted domain user works
- gtalk user to self-hosted XMPP server user works
- self hosted XMPP server to gtalk user works

What didn't work was using the hangout app to chat to XMPP users.

Third party clients do work.

I'm really curious to understand what si going on here without getting into
the rights and wrongs of who should be doing what.

Is it a case of "hangouts are not federated but chat still is"?

If federation is being disabled for chat, can anyone point to a timeline?

S.
