Individual projects should of course apply on their own as well. Not only
is it worth $500/student if you get accepted (even if you only have 1-2
students) but increases the overall org-level participation by XMPP
For example, each org (regardless to its size or number of students) may
send up to 2 mentors to the annual mentors summit, which Google pays for
flights and hotel rooms, up to $2200 for flights for two mentors. The
summit is largely a FOSS unconference, last year we had a great
presentation about using XMPP/Jingle with WebRTC which was heavily attended.
I've served as a GSoC mentor for 10 years now and as org admin for 8, so
I'm happy to help advise and help refine proposals and project ideas pages.
I've worked with the staff at Google for long enough to have a good feel
for what they're looking for and the reasons they reject many org
