I'm not sure that would be particularly workable. The default being positive seems correct as if you don't have an objection to someone becoming a member then they should be allowed to become a member (think of if more as whether or not you have an objection, rather than as voting yes or no). However, at the moment it just requires a majority vote - maybe if we increased that to a larger majority (maybe something like 90% of members), or change it so that a certain number of "black balls" prevents someone becoming a member, that might work better.

Of course this is all assuming there is currently a problem. Do we currently have anyone as a member who perhaps shouldn't have been voted in? I don't think we do, and so I'm not sure that there is a problem here that needs addressing at the moment.
