This sounds like something is going wrong with them. I'm using my main
account on my mobile device (~100 items in the roster, 12-18 MUCs, some
with significant traffic), and my numbers are as follows:

mid-May to mid-June: 147 MB
mid-June to mid-July: 142 MB
mid-July to today: 30 MB (looks like it's holiday time)

I'm using CSI to reduce the number of wakeups, but it doesn't drop
stanzas from the stream.

I can imagine the following reasons for significant traffic increases:

- use of HTTP upload (it will count into the XMPP client's data use)
- low-memory situations (the XMPP client gets killed and restarted,
  performing a full re-authentication and roster/presence sync very
