I think conflating MUCs-that-look-like-MUCs and Public MUCs is ill-advised. It’s very ‘normal’ for people using XMPP professionally, or as part of some organisation, to have MUCs-that-look-like-MUCs that are not public. These are different conceptually from Private Chats that are defined by their membership. A quick glance at Slack, Discord et al. supports this. So I think your claim might make sense in the ‘whatsapp’ model of private comms, but not in the ‘slack’ model of organisational comms.
