Where does this saying come from?  'Could care less' clearly means the 
exact opposite of what people seem to use it to mean.  The saying 
'couldn't care less' has been in common use for at least 50 years (I'd 
have to hunt to find a reference older than that), and makes sense.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
