The hash is only used to compare to a previous hash, so it doesn't matter
as long as the sender always hashes the same data. 
The only problem is that the risk of clashes becomes higher if every client
hashes something else.

There is also a problem if your client does not save the associated hash
with the image in the cache, but re-computes the hash itself. This should
be avoided anyway.
