This scenario is not covered by any of the existing specs.

I would recommend that the client do a string compare on the group names
to make sure there are no duplicates; if there are duplicates, show the
item only once in that group.

I'd also recommend that the server should not accept a roster set with
duplicate groups (do the same string compare, return <bad-request/> if
there are duplicates).

Just because the group names are opaque doesn't mean the server and
client can't compare them. :-)
